‘Eliciting Great Desires:’ Jesuit Education as a Call to Freedom, Justice, & Reconciliation

Date: 01-31-2024

Time: 07:00 PM

Location: Dolan School of Business Event Hall

The 2024 Bellarmine lecture will be offered by the Rev. Kevin O’Brien, SJ, Vice Provost and Executive Director for Fairfield University’s  Bellarmine Campus.

The Bellarmine lecture, offered each year by a distinguished Jesuit or someone who has contributed to the Ignatian story, focuses this year on the important project of Fairfield’s Bellarmine initiative, which provides an associate degree for underserved students in Fairfield county, as this exemplifies Fairfield’s Jesuit Catholic mission.

An expert in the mission of Jesuit education, and a popular speaker on educational leadership, Fr. O’Brien will address the dimensions of this new undertaking and its profound contribution to the entirety of the Fairfield campus.  He will also reflect on the insights of his newest book, “Seeing with the Heart: A Guide to Navigating Life’s Adventures.” Copies of the book will be available that evening.

This lecture is the first in the Spring 2024 Center for Catholic Studies lecture series. Future talks will be given by Dr. Annette Yoshiko Reed (the 18th Annual Lecture in Jewish/Christian Engagement) on Wednesday March 20th, and by Dr. M. Cathleen Kaveny (the 17th Annual Commonweal Lecture/Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Lecture), on Tuesday, April 9th.
