Global Fairfield: Egan School of Nursing and Health Studies

Global Fairfield offers Fairfield Egan undergraduate students an exceptional approach to study abroad, with opportunities for healthcare studies never before offered in the international setting. Egan students can choose from several specially tailored programs that will broaden their healthcare perspective.

Fairfield offers three different semester programs for Nursing majors.

·         During fall of their junior year, nursing students can select major focused courses at Fairfield’s partner institution at James Cook University in Townsville, Australia.

·         The second semester option is for juniors in their spring semester in Galway, Ireland with international partner, the University of Ireland Galway

Egan students majoring in public health or social work also have the option to study abroad with Florence University of the Arts during the fall or spring semester as FUA offers customized content that supports these majors as well as the core curriculum.

In addition to the semester options, all Egan students can participate in short-term options through a faculty led, summer or winter session program. There are several specific programs over the summer that are health care focused.

·         This summer Dr. Gerard is leading a group of 13 undergrads to Ireland for a week to deliver for the first time, Healthcare Delivery Systems (NURS 1112) at the University of Galway.

·         In summer 2023, Dr. O’Shea collaborated with Florence University of the Arts(FUA) to co-teach with Dr. Pagano the undergraduate and graduate interdisciplinary course, Palliative Care Communications (COMM 4328/5328). This intercultural course allowed students to develop an understanding of palliative care and the critical role communication plays in achieving the interdependent goals of providers, patients, and families, in the United States and in Italy.

·         Another summer option for Egan students is with Fairfield partner, AIFS, approved elective, Comparative Healthcare Traveling, a 3-week course that will take them to London, Barcelona and Florence.

For Egan students who would like to complete a magis core or elective course over the summer, Global has a long list of approved programs offering coursework in english, history, modern languages, religion and vpa with partners in Aix-en-Provence, Athens, Galway, Florence, London and Salamanca.

January Intersession is also a terrific time for students to earn 3 credits with a Tier 2 visual and performing arts core approved faculty led course in Florence  or with one of our three partners that offer standing January programs.

Global Fairfield appreciates the strong commitment Egan has in incorporating international learning opportunities for their students.
