Conversations in Global Humanities: A Faculty Seminar on “Campo Minado / MINEFIELD”

Location: Wien Experimental Theater, Quick Center

We are excited to announce the inaugural event in the “Conversations in Global Humanities” series, a collaboration between the Humanities Institute of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts to showcase the role of the humanities and the arts in promoting global citizenship. Conversations in Global Humanities: A Faculty Seminar on “Campo Minado / MINEFIELD” will take place on Thursday, January 24th, 5-7pm, in the Wien Experimental Theater in the Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts.

This seminar will examine themes of and approaches to the upcoming performance of “Campo Minado / MINEFIELD” by the Argentinian playwright Lola Arias (Quick Center, Saturday, January 26th, at 8pm). In this production, six war veterans who once faced each other across a battlefield during the Falklands/Malvinas War now face each other across a stage. Together they travel back to 1984 to share memories, films, songs, and photos as they recall their collective war and embody the political figures that led them into it.

This faculty panel will include Sonya Huber, Associate Professor of English and Director of the MFA; Jerelyn Johnson, Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures; Sunil Purushotham, Assistant Professor of History; and special guest, Sophia Medici, producer of “Campo Minado.” Cast members will also be in attendance.
