New Energy Efficiency Standard for Residential Buildings
John will talk about an old project that recently became more valuable with the advancements in two technologies. One is Data Bases and the second is lidar to measure rooms for Manual J Heat Loss Applications. John has received renewed interest in his project recently. John discovered a formula back in the late 90's that is the best way to compare the overall efficiency of one house to another. John received a patent on the use of this formula in hardware and software applications. This formula will greatly improve the standard of Energy Efficiency in existing residential homes. A database of homes and there window, walls, ceiling, air infiltration rates, HVAC, Solar and Geothermal  systems can be entered into a database with there corresponding Overall Efficiency Number. The data base can be categorized and used for comparison. Large numbers of similar installation types can overcome anomalies.  The results can be used to improve future Heat Loss Applications, In Competition to see who builds the most efficient homes, For real Estate Apps such as Zillow to create a label and to find out what insulation methods, HVAC designs, Solar and Geothermal designs seem to work best and produce the best energy savings. A team of Auditors would pay to be certified to conduct these measurements. A monthly fee could be charged to have access to the database. In todays world the one who controls the data, controls the market!!
