Author Nikkya Hargrove Talks About "Mama: Memoir of Family Lost and Found"

We will be hosting Nikkya Hargove, a Black debut author, whose book Mama: A Memoir of Family Lost and Found, comes out in Fall 2024 from Algonquin, telling the story of a multi-racial queer family and the effects of incarceration and discrimination. Hargrove's mother died after years of addiction and the strain of incarceration, leaving behind a baby son, who Nikkya adopts and raises, becoming a mother to her half-brother at age 24. She builds a family with a Sri Lankan woman she falls in love with as she navigates a maze of social services and court battles to win custody of Jonathan.
