CT Paid Sick Leave information
Effective January 1, 2025, Connecticut's Paid Sick Leave (CT PSL) law now covers all employees who work in CT except seasonal workers. Employees accrue one hour of PSL for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per year. PSL can be used immediately upon accrual, with up to 40 unused hours carried over annually, though usage is capped at 40 hours per year.
Fairfield will not require medical documentation for the first 40 hours of PSL unless mandated by other laws (e.g., FMLA, ADA). After 40 hours, standard sick time documentation rules apply. Managers cannot ask for reasons or medical proof for the first 40 hours of absences.
Sick time can be used in 15-minute increments for:
- Personal or family illness, injury, or health condition
- Medical diagnosis, care, treatment, or preventive care for employee or family member
- Employee mental health wellness days
- Public health-related business or school closures
- Exposure to a communicable illness
- Family violence or sexual assault support
Eligible family members include: Spouse, sibling, child, grandparent, grandchild, parent, or others with a close familial bond.
For full-time and regular part-time employees, the first 40 hours of sick leave count as CT PSL and should be entered as regular paid sick time. Adjuncts and part-time employees (<20 hours/week) can request CT PSL through Workday: Menu > Absence > Request Absence.
