Email Migration to Microsoft 365 Overview

Information Technology Services will be migrating all faculty & staff email mailboxes from our local Exchange server to the Microsoft hosted (M365) Exchange server over the next several months. As a reminder, this move will provide all faculty and staff with enhanced features like seamless access from any device, increased mailbox storage, and the latest security measures.  

To support this transition, ITS will update the Microsoft Office Apps (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) prior to the M365 email changes. The ITS team will push out the newest version of the Microsoft M365 application set on March 18th.  Additionally, the ITS team has made the M365 application update available for you in Software Center if you prefer to install the update at your conveniencePlease note, the update will take roughly 10 minutes to complete.  

Our M365 email migration plan includes: 

  • The week of March 17, 2025 - Early Adopters: A pilot group will transition the week of March 17th. 
  • Starting the week of March 31, 2025: Following the early adopters pilot group, ITS will migrate all users in alphabetical order to M365 email and will continue through the spring term with the goal to have all active users on M365 by the end of June 2025. 

Each user will receive a personalized email outlining their email migration timeline approximately one week before their scheduled move date. 

Additionally, through our testing, we have identified that iPhone users must delete and re-add their mail accounts after migration to ensure proper functionality.
