Book Talk with Clay Risen, Author of Red Scare: Blacklists, McCarthyism, and the Making of Modern America

Based on newly declassified sources, Red Scare tells the timely story of McCarthyism and its legacy in the United States. The Humanities Institute invites you to join us for a discussion of this new book by an award-winning historian and New York Times reporter.

Risen is the author of several notable works, including The Crowded Hour—a New York Times Notable Book of 2019—and The Bill of the Century. A fellow at the Perry World House at the University of Pennsylvania and a member of the Society of American Historians, he brings deep insight into this turbulent era.

Risen is a journalist, historian, and author whose work explores pivotal moments in American history and society. As a senior political and national security editor at The New York Times, he has covered a broad range of historical and political topics, providing in-depth analysis of major events and figures.
