Learning More about Fairfield University’s International Sponsored Travel Policy

The Office of the Provost has made a concentrated effort to create policies and procedures to support the University community with sponsored international travel. The International Sponsored Travel Policy (the “Policy”) constitutes a risk management policy intended to support the health, safety, and welfare of University staff, faculty, and students by facilitating comprehensive health, safety, and risk management review of all University-sponsored international travel.

Like many risk-management policies at the University, the Policy:

·        necessarily regulates health and safety related to certain academic pursuits.

is   is designed to support the international engagement and global experience of its faculty, staff and students in a responsible manner, consistent with the Administration’s responsibilities as detailed in the Faculty Handbook.

·         requires that all University sponsored international travel will be reviewed based on well-formulated risk assessment considerations consistent with industry standards, and our insurance broker’s recommendations, ensuring that University resources, protection and support are available to you throughout your travels.

Since responsible and accountable planning and preparation are essential components of successful international travel and programming, all international travel and programs that are sponsored or supported by the University are required to follow this Policy.

Approvals for all travel under this Policy must be obtained through the appropriate process as further articulated in the policy prior to the commitment of any University resources, prior to commencement of travel, and prior to promise of any travel opportunities.

The Office of the Provost has created a WIKI Resource page (password protected) that centralizes several resources that fall under the University’s International Travel Policies.  Over the next few weeks we will provide additional articles that will cover:

  •         Types of Travel Covered by the Policy
  •     The International Travel Programs Review Committee
  •         Process, Rules and Requirements of the Policy
  •         University Approved Travel Providers Scholartrip and CISI
  •          Workshop and Training Opportunities
