“Breaking Barriers: Culturally Responsive Strategies

for College Access and Success”

Please join us Friday, April 11 at 11:30 am for a Lecture & Lunch with Rony Delva. The talk is titled "Breaking Barriers: Culturally Responsive Strategies for College Access and Success."

Rony G. Delva, LMSW, is a doctoral candidate at Simmons University School of Social Work. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Connecticut in West Hartford, CT.  Mr. Delva is an educator and advocate dedicated to fostering equity, justice, and inclusivity in education. As an immigrant of Haitian descent and an African American male, his lived experiences shape his commitment to cultural sensitivity and the empowerment of marginalized students.  Mr. Delva currently works as the Director for the Upward Bound Program at Fairfield University.

Mr. Delva’s research explores the impact of being a first-generation, low-income student in college preparatory programs like Upward Bound. From these insights, he has developed CRISP-CARE (Culturally Responsive Instructions for Professionals-College Access Readiness) - a five-day training program designed to equip educators with the skills to bridge educational disparities. Through CRISP-CARE, Mr. Delva strives to create inclusive learning environments, empower professionals, and build collaborative networks that support the success of first-generation, low-income, and immigrant college-bound students.

Lite lunch and refreshments will be served.

Hope you can join us!
