Campus Network Upgrade Project – Summer and Fall 2025
Date: 05-27-2025
Dear Fairfield University Community,
We are pleased to announce a significant initiative this summer to enhance our campus network infrastructure, improving performance, reliability, and scalability.
Fairfield University is undertaking a comprehensive upgrade of the network systems in all of our campus buildings, installing the advanced Arista Networks platform and replacing the existing Cisco and Aruba hardware. This project will enhance connectivity in the academic, residential, administrative, and student services buildings and in the athletic facilities. The campus upgrade is scheduled from May through August 2025 on the Fairfield campus, followed by other campus in Fall 2025.
The project will proceed in four phases:
- Wiring within the walls will be replaced starting May 27, 2025; this work will be done with no user downtime.
- June 2025: Preparations to the core network infrastructure in Loyola and BCC to support the upgrade.
- July–August 2025: Network Equipment Installation & Cutover will take place building by building, with )brief, scheduled downtimes per building, which will be shared in advance. Other locations will be cut-over from September to November.
- Post-Cutover Testing: After each building has been upgraded, ITS will perform thorough testing to confirm full functionality of wireless devices, phones, printers, and other devices.
ITS is collaborating with campus partners to minimize disruptions to summer classes, camps, and events. A detailed schedule has been provided to those partners. The Fairfield campus upgrade will be completed by August 31, 2025.
