Windows 11 Upgrade Requirement
Windows 10 will reach the end of support on October 14, 2025, meaning it will no longer receive security updates or patches posing a security threat to the university.
To ensure long-term stability, security, and feature compatibility, all systems must be upgraded to Windows 11 version 24H2.
What’s Happening Next?
Over the coming weeks, Information Technology Services (ITS) will continue upgrading all University computers currently running Windows 10 to Windows 11 version 24H2.
Rollout Process:
- The Windows 11 24H2 upgrade is now available in Software Center for self-service installation. Important: Please back up your files to Dropbox or OneDrive before upgrading.
- The upgrade can take 30–120 minutes and requires a reboot. We recommend starting the upgrade at the end of the workday to avoid interruptions.
- If you are working remotely, you still have the availability to do the upgrade if you are connected to VPN (Global Protect). If you do not have Global Protect you can download it from my.fairfield.edu.
- For instructions click Data Backup Instructions
- Click windows search and type Software Center. Instructions here Software Center.
- Beginning September 15 through October 13, ITS will begin automatic evening upgrades for any computers not yet updated.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we move forward with this required upgrade.
