The Irish film series continues on October 22 with the comedy "Waking Ned Devine" (1998).  Directed by Kirk Jones, the film is set in an Irish coastal village, whose population numbers 53. When elderly Ned learns that he won the large national lottery, he dies of shock.  Two friends, Jackie O'Shea, played by Ian Bannen, and Michael O'Sullivan, played by David Kelly, scheme to get their hands on the lucky ticket.  They promise to share the winnings with all the villagers if everyone agrees to pretend that Michael O'Sullivan is Ned Devine. When the lottery official shows up and the staggering size of the winning is revealed, the good-natured irreverence of the cast of characters threaten to foil the plot.

Dr. Robert Epstein, Professor of English and a member of the Irish Studies faculty, will introduce the film and field questions from the audience after the screening.
