Windows 11 24H2 Upgrade Requirement
Over the next several weeks, Information Technology Services (ITS) will begin upgrading all University computers to Windows 11 24H2, the latest release from Microsoft.
Windows 11 24H2 delivers enhanced performance, stronger security, and improved productivity tools to ensure that your system remains fully supported and up to date. Moving forward, all new and refreshed University computers will be deployed with Windows 11 24H2.
Upgrade Rollout
- Lab and Classroom Computers
These systems will be upgraded automatically by ITS. - Self-Service Option
The Windows 11 24H2 upgrade is available now in Software Center for self-service installation. - Please back up your files to Dropbox or OneDrive before starting.
- The upgrade can take 30–120 minutes and requires a reboot. We recommend starting the upgrade at the end of the workday to avoid interruptions.
- We suggest running the update before you leave for the evening and let it run.
- Important: Please back up your files to Dropbox or OneDrive before upgrading.
If you are working remotely, you still have the availability to do the upgrade as long as you are connected to VPN.
- Automatic Evening Upgrades
Between September 15 and October 13, 2025, ITS will automatically upgrade University computers that have not yet been updated. - Users will be notified in advance of the scheduled evening when their computer will be upgraded.
- Windows 10 Users
If your computer is still running Windows 10, you must first upgrade to Windows 11 before moving to Windows 11 24H2.
- Final Deadline
Any computer not upgraded by October 18, 2025 will be restricted from the University network until the upgrade is completed.
