"An Evening with Nurses: Stories, Inspiration, and Leadership" will kick off the Campus Connect series held at the Fairfield University Store, 1499 Post Road, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 25. Authors of An Empowering Leadership Guide for Emerging Nurses: Surviving the Shift, including Linda Roney, EdD, RN-BC, FAAN, will discuss how to navigate the world of nursing; including Starting Strong in Your Nursing Career, Rising Through the Challenges, and Advocating For Yourself.
A panel discussion and book signing will highlight powerful stories and strategies to help nurses navigate their careers, with a focus on insights and experiences related to leadership, resilience, and navigating the early stages of a nursing career. The collaborative book, created by 24 nurse contributors across the country, including Egan colleagues Dr. Eileen O’Shea, Dr. Danielle Hall, and Professor Laura Conklin, as well as 14 Egan Alumni, offers candid insights, real-world experiences, and practical advice to support the resilience, advocacy, and professional growth of emergency nurses.
An Empowering Leadership Guide for Emerging Nurses: Surviving the Shift provides readers with real-world scenarios and practical advice tailored to the unique challenges faced by novice nursing professionals.
The book explores a variety of themes related to early nursing experience, including transitioning to the first nursing position, understanding the dynamics of leadership and support within healthcare settings, coping with incivility and workplace violence, and building effective teams. The theoretical framework of the text, based on the Theory of Marginalization and Mattering, underscores the importance of feeling valued and supported in the workplace. The book features real-world narratives from new nurses, reflections by experienced nurse leaders, and practical advice for handling workplace challenges.
An Empowering Leadership Guide for Emerging Nurses is ideal for nursing courses and programs with focus on leadership, professional development, and transition into practice. It is designed to help new and aspiring nurses foster a sense of empowerment and community amid the rigor of the nursing profession.
The Campus Connect speaker series engages Fairfield's on-campus and off-campus communities in topical conversations hosted by a variety of local and University experts — from Fairfield faculty and staff, to town government and school officials. Monthly events are held in the newly renovated upstairs gathering space at the downtown bookstore.
