NYC Free Arts Excursion: The Tenement Museum
Date: 02-20-2026
Time: 08:30 AM
Location: New York City (via Train)
Join us on a trip back in time to the New York City Tenement Museum!
The Arts Institute is excited to host a curated excursion for students to the Tenement Museum in New York City on Friday, February 20, from approximately 8:30am-5pm (including round-trip train travel and lunch).
Co-Curated by Assistant Professor of Public Health, Bridget Hussain and Theatre Program Costume Director, Julie Leavitt Learson, travel, museum fees, a guided tour, and lunch will all be provided to students AT NO COST!
The Tenement Museum is a dynamic and interactive museum site which allows visitors to explore the lives of people who lived and worked in Manhattan's diverse Lower East Side. Each preserved apartment or shop focuses on a different family and a different period.
Our tour will focus on a young dressmaker and his family who managed a clothing "factory" out of their home at the turn of the 20th century. Their unique story weaves together fashion history, labor relations, food insecurity, public health, period aesthetics, domestic life, childbirth/rearing, and community building, all in one tiny apartment!
This special, interdisciplinary excursion is open to all Fairfield students (undergraduate or graduate), with twelve slots available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
To sign up, email Arts Institute Senior Coordinator, Kerry Lunn: klunn@fairfield.edu
