MLK Convocation and Events

Every year, the Fairfield University community gathers to honor the life and legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This year, our theme is "Challenging Injustice: Fear as Fuel for Change." It inspires us all to take steps toward justice, even when we feel uncertain.

We are excited to welcome one of the nation’s leading scholars, Dr. Eddie S. Glaude, Jr., as the keynote speaker for our MLK Convocation at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 11th, in the Quick Center. The Convocation is a time for our community to come together and reaffirm our “common commitment to truth and justice,” as stated in Fairfield University’s Mission Statement.

The Convocation is the highlight of our MLK events, which also includes:

  • Monday, February 9 (10:00 am – 2:00 pm), MLK Teach-In in BCC lower level.

This is an open, creative space with visiting artist, Daniel Bernard Roumain. People can give short presentations, share poetry, speak reflections, read excerpts from MLK speeches, dance, play an instrument, etc. Daniel will improvise with participants.  Drop by anytime during the session to participate or support the event.

  • Tuesday, February 10 (6:00 - 7:30 pm), Vision Awards Reception in BCC Oak Room.

2026 Awardees: Jessica Alicea (Faculty), Carly Thibault-DuDonis (Staff), Mishal Qureshi '26 (student), William King (community)

  • Friday, February 13 (12:00 – 3:00 pm), Douglass Day Transcribe-A-Thon in the Library Innovation Lab.

  • Wednesday, February 18 (12:00 - 2:00 pm), Celebration of Activism in BCC Oak Room.

These events promote dialogue, encourage reflection, and inspire meaningful action. Convocation tickets are free but must be reserved in advance. Find out more about Dr. Glaude and the full schedule of MLK events at https://www.fairfield.edu/mlk/

We hope you will join us as we celebrate the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
