Spring 2026 Mid-Semester Assessment of Teaching (MAT)
The Center for Academic Excellence is pleased to offer the Spring 2026 Mid-Semester Assessment of Teaching (MAT) to all full- and part-time faculty.
Request deadline: Friday, February 13, 2026
MAT Window: March 2-6 and March 16-20, 2026
What is an MAT?
A Mid-Semester Assessment of Teaching (MAT) is an informal and confidential way for you to get constructive student feedback on student learning and your teaching. MATs are offered midway through a term to provide time to make mid-stream adjustments or improvements based on student input. MATs are conducted during the first or last 20 minutes of a class session. MATs are not classroom observations; they are 20-minute conversations with your students to gather feedback about their learning experiences and your teaching (please see attached document for more information about MATs). Please note that online courses—including asynchronous courses—are also eligible for MATs; student conversations can be conducted during a scheduled Zoom session or by means of an online survey.
To schedule an MAT for your course, please complete the MAT request form (below) by Friday, February 13, 2026. Note that MATs are limited to one class section per instructor each semester and occur during the weeks of March 2-6 and March 16-20, 2025. Once signed up, a CAE liaison will follow up with you to schedule:
· The 20-minute class session where your assigned CAE liaison will collect data from your students, and;
· A follow-up debriefing conversation with your assigned CAE liaison outside of class.
