2026-2027 Student Fellows of the Humanities Seminar - Call for applications
Date: 03-16-2026
The Humanities Institute welcomes faculty in the humanities and related disciplines to encourage their top students to apply for positions as Student Fellows in the Humanities Seminar for the 2026-2027 academic year. The announcement and application forms are attached and may also be downloaded from the Humanities Institute SharePoint page. The application deadline is Monday, March 16, 2026.
The purpose of the seminar is to support high achieving humanities majors or minors in their intellectual and research development, so as to better prepare them for graduate level seminars or research-intensive careers. Student Fellows work closely with a Faculty Fellow mentor in a humanities discipline. For the upcoming academic year, selected Student Fellows will be paired with one of the Humanities Seminar Faculty Fellows.
Current Faculty Fellows (2025-2027):
Dr. Upasana Dutta, English
Dr. Sonya Huber, English
Dr. Daniele Libatique, English, Classical Studies
Dr. Nels Pearson, English
Dr. Carolan Añón Suarez, Modern Languages & Literatures
In the fall, Student Fellows will read extensively, begin to formulate their own innovative research projects, and attend monthly seminar meetings to discuss research approaches and research-in-progress with other Faculty and Student Fellows. In the spring, Student Fellows enroll in HUMN 4301 Humanities Institute Seminar (3 credits) or receive Independent Study credit in their major discipline to credit their work on their research projects. Student Fellows are also eligible for stipends up to $500 towards research expenses.
Questions can be directed to Dr. Jennifer Adair, Associate Director of the Humanities Seminar at jadair@fairfield.edu, or Dr. Sunil Purushotham, Director of the Humanities Institute at spurushotham@fairfield.edu. Applications must be uploaded to the Humanities Institute SharePoint page by the recommending faculty member by Monday, March 16, 2026.
