This is the third session led by Vernée Butterfield, PhD and will be joined by Barbara Escobar, Director of Learning, Development & Engagement.
Lunch & Learn Series, Building Inclusive Dialogue and Practice:
Topic - Work-Family Conflicts: Creating Work-Life Balance
How do we meaningfully support work–family balance in ways that honor both individual well-being and our shared responsibility as a community? This interactive session invites Fairfield faculty and staff to explore the intersections of equity, caregiving, and organizational culture through the lens of cura personalis—care for the whole person. Together, we will examine the structural and cultural barriers that shape work–family experiences, while identifying practical strategies that promote balance, flexibility, and belonging across roles.
Participants will learn to:
- Recognize work–family dynamics and caregiving responsibilities as critical dimensions of workplace equity and inclusion
- Identify common barriers to achieving sustainable work–family balance
- Apply tangible practices that support flexibility, well-being, and productivity
- Utilize self-care strategies to navigate caregiving responsibilities with intention
- Access and leverage university resources that support work–family balance
