Apr 16 - Lecture: Florine Stettheimer and Americana

Date: 04-16-2026

Time: 05:30 PM

Location: Bellarmine Hall, Diffley Board Room

“Stettheimer was an ardent Democrat and during the 1920s she subtly, with humor, inserted political statements into her major genre paintings against anti-Semitism, racism, and for women’s rights and fluid sexuality.” Join us on April 16 for a talk by Barbara Bloemink, PhD, the author of numerous books, including the 2022 Florine Stettheimer: A Biography and the 1995 The Life and Art of Florine Stettheimer.

Her talk is being presented in conjunction with the exhibition For Which It Stands..., which includes a painting by Stettheimer. For more information on the exhibition, click here. Dr. Bloemink's talk will also be livestreamed; for a reminder, click here.

Part of the Edwin L. Weisl, Jr. Lectureships in Art History, funded by the Robert Lehman Foundation
