PURIM and THE BOOK OF ESTHER: Serious Issues in Comic Form

The festival of Purim, characterized by levity, masquerade, merrymaking, celebrates the victory of Mordechai and Esther over the wicked Haman, who sought to kill the Jews of Persia.

The Biblical Book of Esther tells this story with a melodramatic and comic style that belies its serious plot. In addition to examining the laws and customs of Purim, this workshop will explore the fluidity of Jewish identity and the controlled irreverence which mark this festival.

Lunch will be served.

RSVP by February 12 to Jennifer Haynos (jhaynos@fairfield.edu or x 2066)
