ZOOM Presentation - A Gilded Age Tale

Date: 06-24-2020

Time: 04:00 PM

Location: ZOOM Presentation

Join Dr. Kurt Schlichting ’70 on a journey from NYC to Newport, Rhode Island and then to our own Fairfield, CT during the “Gilded Age” of American History.  The great burst of industrial activity and corporate growth that characterized the Gilded Age was presided over by a collection of colorful and energetic entrepreneurs who became known alternatively as “captains of industry” and “robber barons.”  Dr. Schlichting will highlight many of these tycoons – their social and economic impact on society – and how they influenced the development and character of our cities through the architecture of the times.

Dr. Schlichting, Fairfield University, is the E. Gerald Corrigan ’63 Chair in Humanities and Social Sciences Emeritus.  At Fairfield, Dr. Schlichting served as the dean and associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
