CARMINA BURANA – NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART

Throughout the 10th to the 13th centuries a group of hobo poets, defrocked clergy and drop-out students roamed throughout Europe. They were known as Goliards. They spoke and wrote in earthly, explicit language from a cynical, irreverent perspective. Their lifestyle was filled with gambling, drinking, vices of many sorts and commitment to “the free life”.  Carmina Burana is based on thesepoems and songs found in manuscript in 1803. These poems address corruption of the clergy, fate and its fickle nature and also includes lusty love songs, drinking and gaming songs.
