The Office of Service Learning in the Center for Faith and Public Life, the Center for Academic Excellence, and the Social Justice Core Signature Element Coordinators are excited to announce that we will welcome Dr. Tania Mitchell to present a half-day workshop on integrating social justice learning outcomes and engaged pedagogies. Dr. Mitchell, Associate Professor of Higher Education in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota, is a leader in the field of social justice education and community-engaged learning. She has written seminal pieces on critical approaches to service learning and race in service learning.

Afternoon Workshop: Publication and Scholarship in Community-Engaged Research & Teaching


Thursday, August 22nd 2pm – 3pm


Dr. Mitchell will also offer a 1-hour workshop on scholarship and publication in the field of Service Learning and Community Engagement.


This session would be appropriate for faculty who have taught or conducted research in a community-based context and are ready to write, publish, or present on a particular project. Dr. Mitchell will offer thoughts on:


  • Broader trends in the field
  • Resources to consider
  • Outlets for publication and conference presentation
  • Involving community partners in research/publication
