Join the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity

As we head into the holiday break, we invite you take a moment to join the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD).  255 members of the Fairfield University community have already signed up. The NCFDD is a nationally-recognized, independent organization that offers online career development and mentoring resources for faculty and graduate students with particular attention to diversity.  This membership represents our ongoing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion as fundamental to the pursuit of academic excellence.

The NCFDD provides various programs and resources that compliment those offered at Fairfield University while connecting members into a national professional network.  These offerings include the weekly Monday Motivator, the popular 14-Day Writing Challenges, and multi-week courses. Core Curriculum Webinars such as the upcoming “Every Semester Needs a Plan” are a great way to get organized for Spring 2021.

Hear from Prof. Bora Yook, Assistant Professor of Communication, about the importance of joining NCFDD:

As a junior faculty, I was looking for more practical and reliable guidelines for long-term success as well as daily productivity. I initially learned about the NCFDD from a friend at another institution before Fairfield University joined as an institutional member. The individual fee was not affordable for me at the moment; thus, I was happy to find out that Fairfield University joined as an institutional member. Having an active NCFDD membership via Fairfield University has been very helpful this semester particularly considering COVID-19. I have learned to create a feasible weekly plan(s) for the semester. I enjoyed participating in the 14-day Writing Challenge program to increase research productivity and gain skillsets based on empirically proven methods to achieve career goals from the multiple sessions in the "Core Curriculum." I am also feeling grateful for being a part of the larger network of the national faculty community. I found that its resources are very helpful as those are tailored to positions (e.g., pre-tenured). I would like to explore upcoming sessions and programs. I feel encouraged that Fairfield University supports the faculty and students' success by providing the abundant resources of the NCFDD.

Questions about the membership?  Please contact Prof. Jocelyn M. Boryczka, Associate Vice Provost for Scholarly, Creative, and Community Engagement at jboryczka@fairfield.eduProf. Rachelle Brunn-Bevel, Faculty Chair for Inclusive Excellence, Prof. Stephanie Storms, Associate Dean of GSEAP, and Prof. Laurie Grupp, Dean of GSEAP, serve as additional contacts for NCFDD.

The NCFDD membership compliments the faculty development and support at Fairfield University provided by the Center for Academic Excellence and its Director of Curriculum Development, Prof. Carol Ann Davis; Faculty Liaison for Innovative Research, Prof. Kathy Nantz; and Faculty Chair for Inclusive Excellence, Prof. Rachelle Brunn-Bevel.

Please watch for further announcements and opportunities to learn more about NCFDD.  Thank you all for your continued dedication to our pursuit of diversity and inclusive excellence.
