Free virtual event; Tune in by visiting

Over the last four years, mass protest has become a constant staple of political activism in the United States. From the Women's Marches that kicked off the Trump era, to the massive Black Lives Matter protests in the spring and summer of 2020, social movements have been powerful voices for change with varying degrees of success. Join us for a discussion of protest, activism and organizing with author and grassroots organizer L.A. Kauffman.

L.A. Kauffman has been a grassroots organizer for more than 35 years. She is the author of two acclaimed books on the history of activism in America, Direct Action: Protest and the Reinvention of American Radicalism and How to Read a Protest: The Art of Organizing and Resistance. She was the mobilizing coordinator for some of the largest demonstrations in U.S. history — the massive Iraq War protests of 2003 and 2004 — and more recently has served as senior strategy adviser to Women's March. Her writings have appeared in The Guardian, Frieze, The Boston Review, and many other outlets, and her work has been featured in The New Yorker, The New York Times, NPR's All Things Considered, and The Washington Post.
