Be mentor, coach, teacher, and facilitator to First Year Students - Earn $1250 to $2500

The Office of Student Engagement is officially launching the selection process for the Community Associate (CA) Position for the First Year Experience (FYE) Program. We are seeking approximately 25 faculty or staff dedicated to the success of our first-year students. The CA position entails a stipend for mentoring, teaching, coaching, and supporting approximately 25 to 50 first-year students in one to two FYE seminars over the academic year.

 Compensation and special notes:

  • CAs will receive $1250 or $2,500 stipend (depending on their selection to serve one or two FYE groups) for serving a full academic year.
  • CAs co-facilitate weekly seminars on navigating transitions associated with attending college, including but not limited to accessing and utilizing campus resources, getting involved inside and outside the classroom, forming effective study strategies, developing resiliency and self-efficacy, understanding and respecting diverse social identities, engaging in difficult dialogues respectfully, and academic exploration and advising.
  • CAs provide holistic support to their students to help them feel connected to the Fairfield community and remain on-track with their academic and personal goals.

Qualifications

A CA must be able to cultivate an authentic relationship with their assigned first-year students and their NSL(s). The ideal candidate will bring these experiences, skills, and qualities:
  •  Must be an active Fairfield University salaried faculty or staff member in good     standing
  •   Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  •   Experience working with first-year and new students
  •   Knowledgeable about campus resources
  •   Demonstrated understanding of first-year student/new student transitional challenges
  •  Contemporary understanding of and commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
  •  Demonstrated skills as an effective presenter and facilitator of dialogue
  •  Experience working with a student leader
  •  Skilled at fostering relationships with students
