Stags in the Field
Stags in the Field is an on-campus internship program for first-year and sophomore students (non-work study). It gives students an opportunity to apply lessons learned in the classroom and supports the development of Career Readiness Competencies according to the National Association of Colleges and Employer (NACE):
Application and Supervision
The number of internships is limited so departments must apply to Stags in the Field by submitting an application to the Career Center. If accepted, the department then posts the job description to Stags4Hire (include title, job expectations, compensation details, and qualifications such as major, GPA, skills needed), then interview and select candidates.
Once hired, the intern’s supervisor should establish goals and objectives and discuss how the student might use their strengths. Weekly meetings should be scheduled with the intern to provide mentoring and review their progress.
Departments determine and track the number of hours worked per week. Each position is funded at $1,500 ($13 an hour). Payment is distributed from the University Career Center budget.
At the end of the internship, the supervisor must provide an assessment to determine if goals were achieved, if the student gained insight into their major or career path, how they utilized their strengths, and if the student developed NACEs Key Competencies.
On May 4, 2022 supervisors and staff members will make themselves available to attend a presentation via Zoom made by their student about their experience as a Stag in the Field.
Student Intern Responsibilities
Interns must be a first-year student or sophomore and commit to working a regular schedule throughout the semester/year. To apply for the internship, students must apply in Stags4Hire.
Students must meet with their supervisor weekly to assess progress.
Students will conclude the internship with a presentation for supervisors and staff members about the experience, their accomplishments, and NACE competencies on Wed., May 4, 2022. Further details will be forthcoming.
