Fairfield University Retirement Planning Workshop Sessions

The Office of Human Resources is pleased to announce that we are sponsoring a Retirement Planning Seminar open to faculty and staff.  This 8-hour seminar will be held virtually on Zoom on October 25th, October 26th, and October 27th from 5pm-7pm. The purpose of this program is to provide participants with the opportunity to learn more about those areas which are important to a successful retirement.  

Our Seminar leader is David K. Carboni, PhD.  Dr. Carboni holds a doctorate in Gerontology, and is also a Certified Financial Planner.  An authority in the field of retirement planning, Dr. Carboni has delivered thousands of retirement planning programs nationwide. This seminar is being offered strictly as an educational program. No products or services will be offered.

Enrollment is limited to 35 participants, including a spouse or a guest, on a first come first served basis.  If you wish to attend, we ask that you respond as soon as possible, no later than October 20th by emailing Blythe Josovitz, Director of Benefits & Compensation at BJosovitz@fairfield.edu. Session 1: Retirement/Financial Planning and Estate Planning
Time: Monday, Oct 25, 2021 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM 
Basics of Financial/Retirement Planning: Key concepts and approaches necessary to ensure a financially secure retirement. How to critically evaluate your financial options. Getting organized: Creating and identifying ways to improve your Cash Flow and Balance Sheets. Identifying if you’re on Track to Afford to Retire.

Estate Planning Issues:   
The importance of an up-to-date will; de-mystifying" probate. Estate tax everyone must have. The importance of Advance Directives. What are trusts? How might they fit it? How to select the right attorney to help.
Session 2: Social Security, Medicare, and Shopping for Medicare Supplemental Insurance
Time: Tuesday, Oct 26, 2021 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Social Security Retirement Benefits: How do they calculate my Retirement Benefits? How soon before retiring should I apply? Collecting Strategies from a financial planning perspective. What about spousal and widow(er)'s benefits? Will my benefits be taxed or reduced if I work or retire early?

Medicare and Health Insurance Planning: Medicare: Parts A and B. Costs involved. Are there "Gaps in Coverage"? When to apply and penalties for not applying at the "right time." How do Medi-gap policies or Medicare Advantage plans fit in? 

Session 3: Long term Care Insurance and Retirement Income Planning
Time: Wednesday, Oct 27, 2021 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Long-term Care Insurance: possibly the forgotten insurance. Do I need it? Why it may be important? What about the new “Hybrid Plans” as an alternative to traditional Long-term Care Insurance?

Retirement Income Planning: Managing your retirement investment planning
strategy during retirement. Advantages and Disadvantages of various Retirement Income Planning Approaches. How your home’s equity and an annuitizing strategy could allow your income to last your life-time, keep pace with inflation, and reduce risk.
