Join us for this stimulating and timely talk by Luciano Cheles, PhD., co-author of “The Political Portrait: Leadership, Image and Power,” published by Routledge in 2020. His study looks at the art and propaganda in a global survey of democratic and totalitarian regimes of the past 100 years. An expert on visual political communications, Dr. Cheles studies how art is manipulated for "resistance, derision, denunciation, and demonization."

Dr. Cheles has been a visiting Lecturer in Italian Studies at the Université de Poitiers. He has served as a consultant to BBC, and conducted research at the Smithsonian as a Terra Foundation for American Art Senior Fellow.

The museum is a co-sponsor of this event, together with the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies
