Apporto Virtual Desktop and AWS AppStream Clarification
We’ve heard feedback from some of our campus partners regarding the transition from AWS AppStream to Apporto and wanted to clarify the process. While we are beginning to offer Apporto and believe it is a better solution long-term for cloud VDI, AppStream will remain available through at least the end of this semester. We understand the time and effort that goes into course planning and don’t want to do anything to disrupt courses at the start of the fall term. For at least this semester, Apporto and AWS will be offered side by side and each faculty member can chose which service to use in their courses.
If you’re interested in learning more about Apporto for use in future classes, we’d be happy to set up some training resources. It seems to solve for some of the most common complaints we’ve heard about AppStream, specifically, it provides a persistent desktop and persistent connection to cloud storage so students can save work. Please email email@example.com and ask for additional Apporto information. We will add you to the list for training laters this semester.
