Registration Available for the CAE’s Fall Online Course Design Institute

The Center for Academic Excellence is pleased to announce the launch of a new Online Course Design Institute (CDI) which is open to all full-time and part-time faculty. The CDI will begin on Thursday, November 11, and is done entirely online and asynchronously. It requires participating faculty members to become online “students” for four weeks, as we release new readings and short assignments each Thursday and ask that they be completed by the following Tuesday morning. In all, one can expect to spend approximately three hours per week on readings, doing a few short digital exercises, and engaging in online discussions. Grounded in the CAE’s long-established work on course design, the online CDI offers a learning-by-doing approach that models Fairfield’s unique style of highly engaged, student-centered teaching techniques in the online environment, along with exposure to some of the most common digital tools. The Fall 2021 session will be centered over the four weekends of Nov. 13-14, Nov. 20-21, Dec. 4-5, and Dec. 11-12, and will be conducted in Blackboard with no scheduled Zoom meeting times.

Both undergraduate faculty planning on offering a Winter Break or Summer Session online course, as well as graduate faculty working with the Online Strategic Initiative are welcome to join the CDI. Simply email cae@fairfield.edu to be added to the roster … or to get answers to any questions you may have.
