Living Theology Workshop |“Reaching Out: Parish Life and Social Justice After the Pandemic” | Brian Stiltner

Date: 11-17-2021

Time: 05:00 PM

Location: Barone Campus Center - Dogwood Room

Please join us for the third and final Living Theology Workshop of the semester entitled “Reaching Out: Parish Life and Social Justice After the Pandemic”

with guest lecturer Brian Stiltner,  Professor of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies at Sacred Heart University.

Like everyone Catholics found 2020 an incredibly challenging year. The COVID-19 pandemic made it more difficult for parishioners to maintain and enjoy community, and it left them more isolated precisely at the time when they needed more support. Social distancing added an additional layer of complexity to the difficult work that pastors and lay leaders faced in challenging their members to engage with the movement for racial justice. This presentation reports on fieldwork and interviews that Dr. Stiltner has conducted in two parishes in Connecticut and one in Ohio since March 2020. He will present this fieldwork in light of Pope Francis’s ethics of fraternity, to show the contributions that parishes do and can make to counteract dehumanizing social forces.

Wed, Nov 17 at 5 pm in the BCC | Dogwood Room or
