This lecture will explore the various ways in which love and desire inform and influence the art of collecting. We will examine various collecting habits through the eyes of a veteran art dealer, whether driven by curiosity, intellectual pursuit, or just plain obsession. As with falling in love, when it comes to collecting art, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Debra G. Wieder is the Director of Meredith Ward Fine Art, NYC, having previously served as the Associate Director of American Paintings, Sculpture, and Decorative Arts at Hirschl & Adler Galleries. Her areas of expertise include 18th-century portraiture, 19th-century American landscape, still-life and genre painting, paintings of the American Renaissance and the Belle Epoque, American Neo-Classical sculpture, and American decorative arts. Wieder joined Hirschl & Adler in 1993, and has curated and co-curated many gallery exhibitions, including most recently “About Face: The Art of Portraiture (2013-14);” “An Architect's Dream: The Magic Realist World of Thomas Fransioli (2015);” and “Change of A Dress (2018).”
