CAE Opportunities to Support Your Scholarship and Writing

Date: 05-27-2022

Time: 10:00 AM

Dear Colleagues,

We write at this busy-grading time to remind you that we are here to help you to make time
to sustain and support your ongoing scholarly, creative and writerly needs as you head into summer. See below for opportunities to practice your work in community with others!

CAE's Annual Summer Kick-Off Writing Retreat will be Friday, May 27.
Join us 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. to give yourself space to write, with lunch & supported writing
consultations on hand. Register HERE so we know you’re coming! Zoom check-ins also available at the link.

Writing Accountability Groups
We are on hand to help you join a writing accountability group in order to keep your work going over the long haul. Participants, usually groups of no more than three or four, set the frequency of their meeting times, and need not share expertise to be useful in helping one another keep deadlines or provide feedback. Colleagues also find it energizing to learn about each other's disciplinary approaches and sometimes forge collaborations from this work. Write to us at cae@fairfield.edu to be placed in an accountability group.

Tips for Jump-Starting Your Work
Though we strongly believe in collaboration, if you are “doing it on your own,” here are some tips for jump-starting stalled work:

  • Broadly define the work that is writing.
  • Set reasonable and achievable goals for the time you have, however brief.
  • Practice your writing & research frequently.
  • Procrastination causes pain in the brain, so don't stop once you start!

Best,

Carol Ann, Jay, Emily, and Debbie
