The performance, We, is two evenings of dance integrated with the sciences, including physics and astronomy, taking place on Thursday, April 13 and Friday, April 14 at 7 p.m. each evening. Created by Emily Carson Coates and Emmanuèle Phuon, the work is a multi-artist, hybrid performance utilizing text, video, installation and the body. We offers a comparative lens on humankind’s relationship to the natural world, expressed through global, interconnected stories.

How do the evenings work?

Night 1 (April 13) – The evening begins on stage with Emmanuèle Phuon joined by dancer Amelia Sanders with film and projection. Emmanuèle shares the story of learning about her father and family in Cambodia. The audience will then be guided outdoors, as we watch the sun set with Emily Coates and Fairfield University Physics professor, Dr. Pierre Christian, with live music by Charlie Burnham, as they help us discuss the cosmos and how it inspired dance over the millennia.

Night 2 (April 14) – The evening will start outside with Emmanuèle Phuon sharing her work with dancer Amelia Sanders and three Fairfield University students as they dive into the human impact on nature and vice versa. The audience will then be guided indoors for a continued conversation between dance and science as Emily Coates is joined by dancers with music by Charlie Burnham.

Each evening is unique and can be experienced as a total two-night package or as just one evening.
